Perth homes have their own problems
Painting in Perth is not the same as painting in Melbourne. Our summers are long, dry and hard on north and west-facing walls. Coastal air carries further inland than most people realise. And a lot of the housing stock around Southern River, Canning Vale and Harrisdale is rendered — which brings its own hairline cracking around windows and parapets.
After seventeen years working these suburbs, John knows which elevations fail first, which estates have the same render cracking, and which older areas are likely to have lead-based paint hiding under later coats.
- North and west elevations get the harshest UV — they fade and chalk first
- Rendered estate homes commonly crack around window heads and parapets
- Pre-1970 homes in Thornlie, Riverton and Beckenham may carry lead paint
- Colorbond and metal trim need the right primer or the topcoat will not hold
